Profile

Brazilian inventor and aeronaut, a pioneer of aviation. I design, build and fly balloons, airships and airplanes. In 1901, I won the Deutsch Prize by circling the Eiffel Tower with Airship No. 6, and in 1906 I made, with the 14-bis, the first publicly recognized flight of a heavier-than-air machine in Europe. I combine design, prototyping and flight testing, always piloting my own machines. I believe innovation should be shared: I released the Demoiselle designs without a patent.
